This page lists some of the research projects that I am or have been involved in.

CLASS - Cognitive-Level Annotation using Latent Statistical Structure

CLASS is a European 6th Framework Specific Targeted Research Project that started in January 2006. It will run for 3 years. The goal is to investigate the use of latent structure models and semi-supervised learning methods for the automatic construction of classifiers for visual and textual data. The partners are INRIA (coordinator), the University of Oxford, KU Leuven, TU Darmstadt, and the Max Planck Institute Tübingen.

aceMedia - Integrating knowledge, semantics and content for user-centred intelligent media services

aceMedia is a European 6th Framework Integrated Project that started in January 2004. It will run for 4 years. Its goal is to integrate knowledge, semantics and content for user-centred intelligent media services. The partners are: Motorola Ltd UK (coordinator); Philips Electronics Netherlands; Thomson France; Queen Mary College, University of London; Fraunhofer FIT; Universidad Autonóma de Madrid; Fratelli Alinari; Telefónica Investigación y Desarrollo; the Informatics and Telematics Institute, Dublin City University; INRIA (including the TexMex team at IRISA in Rennes, Imedia at Rocquencourt in Paris, and LEAR in Grenoble); France Télécom; Belgavox; the University of Karlsruhe; Motorola SAS France.

PASCAL - Pattern Analysis, Statistical Modelling and Computational Learning

PASCAL (12/2003 - 11/2007) is a European Union Network of Excellence focused on applying well-founded methods of statistical pattern analysis and machine learning to multimodal interfaces, and involving about 120 learning theorists, statisticians, optimization researchers and domain experts from several application domains including vision, text, data mining.

LAVA - Learning for Adaptable Visual Assistants

LAVA (05/2002 - 04/2005) is a European Union Cognitive Vision Systems project devoted to using computational learning and computational vision for camera-equipped devices such as PDA's or telephones. I am also an external collaborator on the Australian National University based ARC proposal that represents the Australian contribution to LAVA.

VIBES - Video Browsing, Exploration and Structuring

VIBES (12/2000 - 04/2004) is a European Union Future and Emerging Technologies project on computer vision techniques for object level video indexing and manipulation.

CUMULI - Computational Understanding of Multiple Images

CUMULI (09/1996 - 02/2000) was a European Union Long Term Research project on computer vision and close range photogrammetry that we coordinated.

HEROS

HEROS (~1994 - 1997) was a European Union Human Capital and Mobility network on which I had a postdoc to come to France and work in the SHARP team in LIFIA-INRIA, on sensing strategies for robot planning.

SECOND - Sensor Controlled Robotic Devices

SECOND (~1992 - 1995) was a European Union Long Term Research project on using vision and haptic sensors for robot manipulator control and planning.
